Description:
Doohdaah is a web startup funded to prototype stage, looking for an ambitious
software engineer to join the team and build an infrastructure service that will
eventually be associated with just about every online event. Doohdaah has been
described by the CEO of one of the world’s most successful VCs as “a great concept
for the web”. The application will involve millions of data transactions, accessed
and queried across multiple platforms, languages and currencies – all in real time. Data
just doesn’t get much bigger than this.
This role is only for you if you can think really big and enjoy attacking and solving
really hard, complex problems in creative ways.
The role:
As a technical co-founder, you’ll work closely with the rest of the team of
founders to build the core features and functionality that will have investors
fighting to get in on the first round of funding.
You will be tackling hard technical challenges in areas as diverse as rapid
notifications to web and mobile users, bulletproof event and device syncing,
API development and integration with some of the world’s largest commercial
databases and apps for mobile devices. We’ll also be generating highly detailed
custom analytics to feed back into a host’s demand-led variable pricing model.
We want you to research and implement effective machine learning algorithms suited
to each task at hand. In particular you will need to lead the design of
the application architecture
with scale baked in from the start.
You will be developing software in a professional engineering environment. We
run an agile shop – using version control, continuous integration/deployment,
test driven development and automated infrastructure management as a matter
of course.
Our users will mainly be people who want to get things done in a way that
they’ve never been done before. They’ll expect everything to look gorgeous, work
beautifully and sync seamlessly into their lives. Part of your head will need to
be very much in the real world so that people will comment that “it just works”.
You will need a good Bachelors Degree (minimum 2:1) in Computer Science or
Computer Engineering and we’re very keen for you to have contributed to open
source software projects. You will need to be able to demonstrate exceptional
skills in a scripting language such as Python/Ruby, a web framework such as
Django/Rails, RDBMS (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and NoSQL datastores (Redis/
MongoDB). You will need to be highly proficient at Linux system administration.
Our application is very front-end heavy and as such your Javascript/jQuery skills
need to be polished as well.
You’ll be part of the team building the Next Really Big Thing and as such the
jackpot’s in your equity stake. You’re working hard to make the company
successful, so you should share generously in the reward. If you’re interested,
send an email to mhalls-moore@doohdaah.com and we’ll set up some time
for you to talk with us.
A bit about our team: We are based in London from where you’ll need to work.
The team comprises the founder (who amongst other things wrote the first
flight-planning suite to run on a ‘micro’ back in the 1980’s) an ex-McKinsey
consultant working in FMCG, a legally trained business strategist and a corporate finance
advisor who has led over 60 IPOs. And our technical adviser is a rocket scientist!
Required skills:
Rails/Ruby
HTML/CSS
Javascript/JQuery
RDBMS (PostgreSQL/MySQL) admin
Linux sys-admin
Machine learning algorithms
Desired skills:
NoSQL (MongoDB/Redis)
RESTful API design
