Gruvi is a online system that extends Facebook in order to help groups
of people choose a movie to see, decide a which cinema and show time
to go to and subsequently asks whether the film was hot or not. Gruvi
will recommend other films, some will be currently showing, some will
be in production. There will be the possibility of an invitation to
see the premier of the film and to write about it on Facebook.

The idea was conceived out of discussions between one of the partners,
Ben Johnson, and the head of online marketing at Universal studios.
The film industry is looking for a way to leverage social media in
order to fill cinemas. Ben was formerly head of UK sales at Preview
Networks and has left to pursue this idea, we have the backing of
Preview Networks who will sell the service the their client base of
European film distributors. Through them we will gain access to a feed
of film trailers in 5 languages and cinema times across Europe.

The second customer group are the cinema chains and we have engaged a
cinema with which to pilot the service. They will advertise the
service “Is this
movie hot or not – vote after the show now via SMS to this number…”
and in return we will enable them to create a dialogue with their
audience over Facebook. We benefit by exploring how best to grow the
Gruvi network.

Gruvi is the brain child of Ben Johnson and James Hobbis. James is as
a long time
e-commerce program manager. and has held positions such as head of
e-commerce systems at Fidelity Investments (the largest mutual fund
manager in the world) and recently lead the rejuvenation of Saxo

Gruvi is seeking an experienced RoR technology lead to join the team.
Work commences in August in Copenhagen.
